SALEM, Ore.– Sprague have finally put an end to their skid Monday afternoon when they defeated Barlow 3-0.
Coming off a tough week last week in which they fell to Clackamas and losing both tough games to Bend, the win ended their three-game losing streak behind a complete game effort by Eli Lowe.
Lowe’s offense backed the junior pitcher, plating three first inning runs with two belonging to Will Hassoun thanks to a double with two outs on the board. The Olympian defense settled in after that to hold-off the Bruins offense in a defensive battle between the two 6A squads.
“It was great. We kept momentum on our side the whole time and we were control a lot through the defense and the offense,” Lowe said. “We put up a three-spot at the beginning which got momentum on our side, and we got to keep that the whole time. Controlling that from the mound and defense was great today.”
“Eli pitched a gem. When you go seven innings in High School baseball, that’s great and that’s what you get when you throw strikes and let your defense play,” adds Hassoun. “Huge games (coming up) …we’re excited. We’re going to put in what we always do; we’re not doing anything different.”
Sprague plays West Salem Thursday at home and Friday in West. Lowe finished the game Monday with five strikeouts, Hassoun led the squad with 2RBI’s to two hits from Chris Rogers.
