SALEM, Ore.— Despite the elements Sprague softball held Mountain View to three baserunners, all off of walks, in their 15-0, 19-0 doubleheader sweep of the Cougars on Saturday afternoon.
Sophia Honse struck out 12 in the six innings that the Olympians played to back up her offense that hit eight homeruns. Callie Stubbs had four of them, Honse and Ali9 Ginsbach each had two as Sprague’s winning streak has reached seven.
Up next however, is one of their toughest challenges since Spring Break with McNary on Tuesday up in Keizer.
“I think our hitting is finally coming around, so I think it’s going to the difference on Tuesday,” Honse said. “Their bats will be hot, but we’re also expecting bunts because that’s what we’ve heard. I think our corners are ready for that. We’ve worked a lot on that, we’re ready.”
Honse led the offense with 8RBI’s, Stubbs (7RBI’s) and Ginsbach (5RBI’s) all had at least 5RBI’s in the doubleheader. Hayley McCuisition drove in 3RBI’s as well.
The game against the Celts starts a stretch of tough games for the Olys that feature a doubleheader against Bend next Saturday. South Salem (April 26) follows that up before another doubleheader on April 29 against West Salem.
