South Salem’s Maggie Lapray (Girls Basketball), McKay’s Anabel Rivera (Girls Wrestling), West Salem’s Jon Breyman (Boys Basketball) and West Salem’s Kaden Oprea (Boys Swimming) were named to the Salem Sports and Breakfast Club for the Week of January 7.

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week, from South Salem Girls Basketball, is Maggie Lapray. Maggie, a junior and team captain, plays wing for the 6-3 Saxons. During the Holiday Classic, where she earned all-tournament honors, Maggie averaged 15.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists on the way to a 2-1 tourney record. Coach Adrian Lewis added, “She can do it all for us. She can shoot the three and attack the paint to get layups. She is always communicating on both ends of the floor that helps the rest of the team get matched up.”

Congratulations Maggie from the Salem Sports and Breakfast Club!

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week, from McKay Girls Wrestling, is Anabel Rivera. Anabel, a junior, went undefeated for the Scots at the Northwest Girls Duals in Albany on Thursday last week. Her performance helped lift McKay to a 2nd place finish. Coach Logan Fore added, “She has become a leader not only on the mat but in the classroom. Anabel started wrestling as a 9th grader and has improved drastically since then. She has become a leader not only on the mat but in the classroom. Anabel is someone that I never have to worry about and I know is always working hard!”
