North Salem’s Erick Gonzalez (Football), South Salem’s Trevor Goldman (Football), Salem Academy’s Aly Herber (Volleyball), South Salem’s Brian Hernandez (Boys Soccer) were honored by the Salem Sports and Breakfast Club for the week of November 12.

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week, from North Salem Football, is Erick Gonzalez.
Erick, a junior and team captain, is a wide receiver and defensive back for the 7-3 Viks. In North’s 27-11 first round win over Crater Erick had 3 catches for 130 yards and 2 touchdowns. Erick, who leads the team with 4 interceptions, is a 3rd year starter for the Vikings.North Salem plays Silverton in the second round tonight at Silverton.Congratulations Erick from the Salem Sports and Breakfast Club!

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week, from South Salem Football, is Trevor Goldman.
Trevor, a junior, played every snap at offensive right tackle and defensively had 5 tackles, 2 sacks, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown in South’s 40-27 first round win over David Douglas. The Saxons, 6-4 on the season, will play West Linn in the 2nd round.Offensive line coach Ken Miller added, “Trevor Goldman has started every game at right tackle on offense and has been a solid contributor on defense this season for the Saxons. Trevor has been one of our most consistent players on the offensive line. This season, Trevor has only given up two sacks out of 460 passing attempts. His contributions to the team have helped South’s offense become one of the top passing offenses in the state of Oregon. He is a hard worker, has a great football motor and is an exemplary teammate. Trevor is a two-year starter and is only a junior with a bright future on South’s football team.”Congratulations Trevor from the Salem Sports and Breakfast Club!

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week, from Salem Academy Volleyball, is Aly Herber.
Aly is a junior for the State 2A Volleyball Champs. Salem Academy lost their first two matches this season and then went on a 27-game winning streak, earning the state championship. The Crusaders posted an 11-0 conference record without losing a set. Aly earned 1st team Tri-River Conference all-league honors and led the team with 166 kills (.333 hitting percentage) and a 5.1 kill per set average. Her season serving percentage was .942 with 35 aces and she racked up 34 blocks for kills. From the back row she had a serving percentage of 90% on 352 serves recording 61 aces.Coach Melissa Holman added, “She is a powerhouse that no opponent wants to come up against. Aly is our offensive leader that helped us win the state title for the first time in 26 years. I couldn’t be more proud of Aly Herber. Aly is also a supportive teammate, friend, and very coachable. She already has colleges looking to recruit her.”Congratulations Aly from the Salem Sports and Breakfast Club!

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week, from South Salem Boys Soccer, is Brian Hernandez.
Brian, a senior, played midfielder for the Saxons who finished 10-3-3 for the season. Brian earned South’s “Man of the Match” honors in their 4-1 first round win over Centennial. He was singled out for setting up the team’s first three goals with outstanding passing. Coach Eric Johansen described the plays. “First, in the 15th minute, Brian fed teammate Frank Kilongo inside the box, who finished sharply. Three minutes later, Brian again turned provider, this time to teammate Nathan Martinez, who finished from short range. Then, in the 35th minute, Brian again sent a long ball to teammate Julian Rivas Delgado, who was brought down in the box. Nathan converted the ensuing PK for the 3 – 0 lead in the first half.Brian is 3rd in team scoring for the season. He has scored 5 goals and has provided a team-leading 8 assists, for a total of 18 points.”Brian was selected as 1st team all-Mountain Valley Conference.Congratulations Brian from the Salem Sports and Breakfast Club!
