West Salem’s Crosby Albee (Baseball), McKay’s Brian Coburn (Track and Field), Sprague’s Eva Hammond (Tennis) and the Titans Reagan Davis (Softball) were honored by the Salem Sports and Breakfast Club for the Week of May 7.

May 7th, 2021The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week, from West Salem Baseball, is Crosby Albee. Crosby, a senior, is an infielder for the 9-1 Titans. Last week Crosby went 8 for 8 with 2 singles, 3 doubles, a triple, and 2 home runs. Overall he had 9 runs scored, 10 RBIs, 4 walks, and was hit by a pitch. Coach Taylor Blair adds that Crosby, “works extremely hard and is very deserving of this award. The coaching staff is extremely proud of the adjustments he has made at the plate and the stats demonstrate how that work has paid off this past week. What a great kid! Works so hard and has made so much progress over the past 4 years. Coachable and always looking to get better. The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week, from McKay Boys Track and Field, is Brian Coburn. Brian, a senior, is a team captain for the Scots. In the first dual of the season against McNary Brian started off strong by winning both the discus and shot put. Against North Salem Brian won the shot with a personal best of 49-08, ranking him 4th in 6A. His distance of 136’9″ in the discus earned him the win and also ranks him in the top 5 in 6A. Coach Curtis Everetts added “[Brian] is a natural born leader. He works extremely hard in track and field and in the classroom.” Brian has signed to play football in the fall at the University of San Diego. Brian is also our first ’20-21 multiple SSBC Athlete of the Week as he was honored for football as well. Congratulations from the Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Brian!
The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week, from Sprague Girls Tennis, is Eva Hammond. Eva is a senior for the Olys. For the season Eva has been a doubles specialist, teaming up with three different partners in the #1 doubles slot. She has earned a 6-0 record, winning all matches in two sets including a hard fought 7-5, 6-3 win over Crescent Valley. Coach Jennifer Schmelling added, “Eva is a competitor on the court, but her high-level tennis ability is also equally matched with her genuine sportsmanship. Eva is kind-hearted, always ready to help others, and encourages her teammates on and off the court.” Congratulations from the Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Eva!
The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week, from West Salem Softball, is Reagan Davis. Reagan, a senior, catches and plays outfield for the 7-4 Titans. In a three-game span that included wins over Silverton and North Salem, Reagan was outstanding at the plate hitting 9 for 12 with 11 RBI including 4 doubles and 2 home runs. For the season Reagan is hitting .488 with 5 home runs, 23 RBI, and a 1.000 slugging percentage. Coach Ty Nicholson added, “Reagan is a great player and also an outstanding teammate who leads by example. Reagan is the ultimate team player, would do anything that would help the team and is always working to make herself better. Over the last 4 years it’s been a pleasure coaching her and watching her grow not just as a softball player but also becoming a young lady. In my coaching years Reagan would rank in the top 5 best players I have ever been blessed to coach. Reagan plans to continue her softball career at Corban University in the fall and I believe she is going to do great things there.” Congratulations Reagan from the Salem Sports and Breakfast Club!
