SALEM, Ore.– South Salem on Saturday finished one-point shy of a perfect 15 score as they went one-through-four and five of the first six positions in Saturday’s Salem-Keizer City Championships.
Evan Gonzalez, Kelvin Wilson, David Huggins and Kellen Hayase finished in the Top 4 as Sprague’s Tucker Piper ruined the Saxons bid of perfection by coming in fifth with a time of 16:34.8. Shayn Carmichael Kohn (South Salem), Justin Saunders Tyquiengco (South Salem), Milano Cedillo Rodriguez (Sprague, Ryan Griffin (West Salem) and Zachary Miller (West Salem) rounded out the Top 10.
McKay won the Girls Salem-Keizer Meet with Jazmine Liebl and Sydney Haines going two/three in the girl’s race and Kaydence Nguyen (sixth) and Ximena Nava (ninth) finishing in the Top 10 as the Scots finished with 30 team points. South Salem was second with 35 points with Zoey Hock and Paige Trautman going fourth and fifth in the race.
Sprague’s Sara Abbott won the race in 18:50.9, North Salem’s Elizabeth Hernandez was eighth and McNary’s Aspynn Westby was tenth in the race.
South Salem Boys won the Salem-Keizer Championships with Jamin Potloff, Elias Hunter and Sean Grant going one, two and four. West Salem’s Shane Pelinski was third with a time of 18:45.8 and Sprague’s Ethan Shingleton was fifth with a 18:57.4 race.
South Salem Girls JV squad won the Salem-Keizer Championships with Abigail McClain (second), Rebekah Colburn (third) and Victoria Bucher (fourth) finishing in the Top 5. McKay’s Joseline Tapia Guerra won the race in 23:06.4, edging McClain by nearly a second. North Salem’s Perla Quevedo was fourth with a time of 23:43.3.
