Salem Sports And Breakfast Club Honorees For March 26, 2021

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club, in their third week back, honored West Salem’s Morgan Duke (Girls Soccer), Sprague’s Ethan Bullock (Football), Blanchet’s Julissa Rocha-Ibarra (Volleyball) and McKay’s Brian Coburn (Football)

Salem Sports and Breakfast Club (since 1954) 

Les Schwab (since 2013) Athletes of the Week 

March 26th, 2021 

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week is from West Salem girls soccer: Morgan Duke Morgan is a 9th grader for the undefeated (7-0) Titans. She has scored 10 goals and tallied one assist on the season. From Coach Orozco: “Morgan’s work rate and tenacity make her a force to reckon with on the field.  She works hard on both sides of the ball and plays with composure not commonly found in Freshman. She creates scoring opportunities for herself and for her teammates, while epitomizing team play and effort. Congratulations to Morgan Duke. 

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week is from Sprague football: Ethan Bullock.  Ethan is the catalyst in the run game for the undefeated Olys (3-0). He had 152 yards rushing and 3 TDs in the opener versus Lebanon. After three games this season Ethan has racked up 555 yards and 7 TDs. Sprague has defeated North Salem (34-7) and McNary (24-0) in addition to their 21-20 win over the Warriors. Congratulations to Ethan Bullock.

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week is from Blanchet Catholic volleyball: Julissa Rocha-Ibarra. Julissa is a senior libero for the Cavaliers. In her last three matches – all wins for Blanchet – Julissa has tallied over 60 digs. She also has served at 95%, missing only 2. Julissa also leads the Cavaliers with serve receive accuracy averaging 2.53 (where 3 is a perfect pass). Coach Burgess says, “[Julissa] leads by example on the court and off the court.” Julissa plans to attend and play volleyball at George Fox University in the fall. Congratulations to Julissa Rocha-Ibarra. 

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week is from McKay football: Brian Coburn. This past week versus South Salem, Brian had 9.5 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and 2 batted passes. Brian also moved to the offensive line this past week, helping anchor a passing attack that accumulated over 300 yards. Brian is a team captain and, according to Coach Piper, “a model for what it means to EAT (Effort, Attitude, Toughness) – three things we can control every game. He is a leader in everything we do and will only continue to leave a lasting legacy at McKay. We are ecstatic that Brian was selected as the Salem Sports Breakfast Club Athlete of the Week.” Next year Brian will be attending the University of San Diego and playing football. Congratulations to Brian Coburn
