SALEM, Ore.– South Salem’s Danny Alvarado is one of two Oregonian’s selected to participate in the fifth-annual National Power Showcase Home Run Derby and All-American Classic here in November.
The event, taking part between November 6 and 8 at the Texas Rangers brand new billion-dollar stadium, Globe Life Field, features some of the best and prolific amateur players from across the nation. Putting them front-and-center in front of baseball’s top evaluators to showcase their talent.
“Each player exemplifies tremendous character, abilities, power, coach/scout references, and recent school performances. Alvarado will proudly represent his home state of Oregon during the prestigious Home Run Derby that will feature top amateur power-hitting prospects in the country. He will also have the incredible opportunity to further demonstrate his skills while participating in a game,” the announcement read announcing Alvarado’s selection.
Alvarado, now a Senior with the Saxons, led the State of Oregon with eight home runs in 2019 as a sophomore as South Salem went 23-6 that season. Winning the Mountain Valley Conference and reached the 6A State Semi-Final before falling to eventual State Champions Jesuit 3-2.
For Alvarado, who was also named to the All-Academic Teams as a freshman and sophomore, it shows the fruits of his labor that’s paying off with this opportunity.
“It’s an Honor to be able to compete with the best power hitters in the Nation. And to be select to participate in the Power Showcase All-American Game,” said Alvarado. “I’ve been working really hard to get in the best shape possible to showcase my skills in front of everyone. Working with Coach Tony (Gutierrez) at the Iron Gorillas gym, and Coach Jake (Forshey) at Forshey (Sports Complex) to improve my mobility, strength and overall athleticism.”
The Home Run Derby will be on November 7 with the All-American Game the next day, November 8.
The other Oregon player selected to the three-day event was Tigard’s Jake Dodge. Both Dodge and Alvarado have been playing together on the Valley Baseball Club in the Salem Baseball Academy Fall Baseball League.
