Salem Sports And Breakfast Club AOW’s For February 7

This past Friday’s Salem Sports And Breakfast Club Athlete’s of the week includes James Moore (Blanchet Catholic), Lidiia Buiko (McKay), Paige Alexander (West Salem) and Noah Worthington (Sprague).  Read about their success’ leading to the honor here:

Our Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week is from Blanchet Boys Basketball – James Moore. James, a senior, plays point guard for the Cavaliers. Over the last 13 games James has averaged 25 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists. In three of those games – against Amity, Clatskanie, and Horizon Christian – he scored 30. Last week, in a 57-44 win over Scio, James scored 35 while grabbing seven rebounds and dishing out five assists. James leads Blanchet in scoring, rebounding and assists. James is currently undecided as to next year but would like to continue his basketball career.
Our Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week is from McKay Swimming – Lidiia Buiko. Lidiia is a senior swimmer for the Scots. In the last two weeks she took first place in the 50-free and 100-back with times of 27.22 and 1:09.89, respectively, against Sprague. She then bettered those times against South Salem with a 26.69 and 1:05.28. Lidiia is undefeated this season and is McKay’s most decorated female swimmer. Lidiia is planning to attend Chemeketa Community College next year.
Our Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week is from West Salem girls basketball – Paige Alexander. Paige, a senior, plays guard and wing for the 11th ranked Titans. The team is 5-2 in league and 13-4 on the season. In the win over Mountain View, Paige scored 17 while dishing out three assists, grabbing four boards, and having four steals. For the month she averaged 12 points a game, five rebounds, three assists, and assist steals. Coach Singleton calls Paige “a great leader on and off the floor.” Paige is a gifted athlete having received the SSBC’s senior athlete of the year honor for girls soccer and will attend the University of Oregon next year, continuing her soccer career.
Our Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week is from Sprague wrestling – Noah Worthington. Noah, a senior, wrestles at 120 for the Olys. Noah helped lead Sprague to the team title at the Tyrone S. Woods Memorial Invitational by going 5-0. He is 25-3 on the year and is ranked second in the state at 120 pounds. He is coming off a first place finish at the Tigard Invitational as well as a 5th place finish at the ultra-competitive Sierra Nevada Classic in Reno. Noah is a three time state placer and defending Mountain Valley Conference champion.
