Salem Sports And Breakfast Club For April 19

SALEM, Ore.–  Here are April 19’s Salem Sports and Breakfast Club’s Athlete’s of the Week.  This week’s Honoree’s are North Salem’s Aaliyah Fitzke, South Salem’s Delaney Keith, McKay’s Ramiro Gonzalez and West Salem’s Zariya Powell.

Our Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week is from North Salem Girls Track and Field – Aaliyah Fitzke. Aaliyah, a senior, was also an SSBC Athlete of the Week for basketball. In North’s wins over Silverton and Crescent Valley last Wednesday, Aaliyah took 2nd in the high jump, won the 300 hurdles and long jump, and was on the winning 4×100 relay. Her current rankings in 5A: 3rd in the 300 hurdles, 2nd in the long jump and 3rd in the high jump. She’s also a member of the 2nd ranked 4×400 relay and the top ranked 4×100 relay which currently leads all levels in Oregon. A 3-year State qualifier, Aaliyah is off to her best start yet. Aaliyah intends to join the National Guard after graduation.

Our Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week is from South Salem softball -Delaney Keith. Delaney, a freshman, plays shortstop for the 9-6 (3-1 in the Mountain Valley Conference) Saxons and was a member of the playoff basketball team as well. In 45 at-bats Delaney has 28 hits and 12 walks against just 4fourK’s. Her hits include six home runs and she has a .622 batting average and a 1.20 slugging percentage. In wins over league favorites West Salem and McNary Delaney had 10 appearances, 5 hits and 4 walks – a .900 on base percentage. In the Saxon’s most recent game, not included in the above stats, Delaney once again had 3 hits in 3 at bats including 5 RBI.

Our Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week is from McKay track and field – Ramiro Gonzalez. Ramiro, a junior, is a distance runner for the Scots. Ramiro entered the Willamette Falls Invitational ranked 32nd but moved up 11 spots, finishing with a time of 9:42 – an improvement of 18 seconds this season and an 11 second personal record. Ramiro currently ranks 16th all-time in McKay history and his time ranks him 8th in the Mountain Valley Conference and the fastest 3K time by a Salem-Keizer runner.

Our Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week is from West Salem track and field – Zariya Powell. Zariya, a junior, played football in the fall and jumps for the Titans in the spring. At the Titan Classic Zariya finished 9th in the long jump with a distance of 19’8½”. He also finished 3rd in the triple jump with a mark of 42’1” on his final jump, a two-feet personal record and an improvement of four-feet this year. He’s improving by leaps and bounds. His triple jump places him 2nd in the Mountain Valley Conference and 7th in the state.
