SALEM, Ore.– This week’s Salem Sports and Breakfast Club honoree’s include Sprague’s Elise Abbott, North Salem’s Cameron Kallhoff, McKay’s Brian Coburn and West Salem’s Jenny Ball.
The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week is from Sprague Girls Track and Field – Elise Abbott. Elise, a senior, is a captain for the Oly’s. Last week at the Titan Classic, a premiere invitational with 19 teams completing, Elise ran the 4×400 relay, finished 2nd in the 800 meters and won the 1500. The 1500 meter race came during the worst conditions of the meet and she won by almost 6 seconds in a time of 4:59:09 – fast considering it was in a driving hail storm. Elise was also an athlete of the week last fall when she captained the Oly’s cross country team.

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week is from North Salem Baseball – Cameron Kallhoff. Cameron, a senior, plays wherever coach needs him – having played centerfield, shortstop, third base, and pitcher for the Vikes. Cameron is leading off for North and has hit in six of nine games, while averaging .500 with a .677 slugging percentage. In those 9 games he has 17 hits and 15 runs scored and has stolen seven bases in eight attempts. Defensively Cameron has recorded a plus 10 DRS a baseball stat measuring the number of runs a player saved – or cost – the team relative to an average player. Oh, and Cameron has twice won the 100 meter dash at track meets this season.

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week is from McKay Track and Field -Brian Coburn. Brian, a sophomore, is a three-sport athlete for the Scots. In the dual meet against Sprague Brian took first in shot with a put of 48’ 3” and first in discus with a throw of 131-01. The next day at the Aloha Preview he took 1st in the freshman/sophomore division of both the shot and discus while taking 2nd in the javelin. In the Mountain Valley Conference Brian currently ranks 1st in the shot and 3rd in the Discus.

The Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week is from West Salem Softball – Jenny Ball. Jenny, a junior, plays shortstop for the Titans. For the four games during spring break Jenny batted .440 with a 1.000 slugging percentage, ripping 2 doubles, 2 homeruns, and had 9 RBIs. In the field at short, she had 13 assists and 5 put outs with no errors. She actually had a 5-game run this season for which she was batting .520 with a 1.250 slugging percentage, hitting 3 doubles and 3 homeruns while recording 10 RBIs.
