Salem Sports And Breakfast Club For April 5

SALEM, Ore.–This week’s Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Honoree’s for April 5, 2019 include South Salem’s Kaiden Doten, Sprague’s Eva Hammond, West Salem’s Lucas Stanfield and McNary’s Taylor Ebbs.

Our Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week is from South Salem Baseball – Kaiden Doten. Kaiden, a senior, plays first base for the 7-2 Saxons. An impressive first basemen, his coach believes Kaiden is the best defensive first baseman in the state. Kaiden is getting it done in the batters box as well. Since March 15th he is 18-for-31, hitting .581 with a .903 slugging percentage including seven doubles and a grand slam, ringing up 12 RBIs, 11 runs scored, and three stolen bases. In Boise for spring break, Kaiden was 10-14 (.714) and had a slugging percentage of 1.143 as the Saxons went 4-0 at the Bucks Spring Classic. Kaiden plans to attend Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington after he concludes his Saxon career.

Our Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week is from Sprague Girls Tennis – Eva Hammond. Eva, a sophomore, is the Oly’s #1 singles player. She was an OSAA state tournament qualifier as a freshman and returns as the team’s #1 singles player. Eva is off to a great start this season winning all five of her pre-season matches. Wins include 6-3, 6-1 over Wilsonville; 6-3, 7-6 over Grant; 7-5, 6-1 win over McMinnville. She allowed only 1’s and 0’s in wins over Cascade and Hood River Valley.

Our Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week is from West Salem Baseball – Lucas Stanfield. Lucas, a senior, plays infield and pitches for the 6-3-1 Titans. His coach describes him as a dominant pitcher and an even better person. For the season he is 4-0 with a 0.94 ERA, recording 36 strikeouts against only five walks. Off the field Lucas has volunteered his services at Myers Elementary, helped with Love Reigns fundraising, and the West Salem Little League tryouts. Lucan plans to attend Linn-Benton Community College in Corvallis next fall before moving on to Oregon State University.

Our Salem Sports and Breakfast Club Les Schwab Athlete of the Week is from McNary Softball – Taylor Ebbs. Taylor, a sophomore, is an infielder for the 6-5 Celts. In the four game Jesuit/Mountainside tourney during Spring Break the team went 3-1. Taylor went 10 for 12, hitting .833 including 7 singles, a triple, and 2 home runs. She had 13 RBIs and scored 8 runs finishing with an .857 on-base percentage and a 1.5 slugging percentage. As a freshman Taylor earned 1st team all-Greater Valley Conference infielder honors.
