SHERIDAN, Ore.– Ronni VanZant will be continuing her athletic career with the Cavaliers of Concordia and their NCAA Division-II Track and Field team.
VanZant, who holds the best times in the 100 meter (12.83) and 200 meter (26.50) in 3A this season to go with her furthest jump in the classification in the Long Jump at the Meet of Champions (17-feet-1.5-inches) to go with her second-fastest time in the 400 meter (1:01.88) during the Southwest Christian Invite, says that it’s pretty exciting to be going to the next level as the Spartan Senior wants to try to compete as a heptathlete (seven-events) at the next level.
“It is extremely exciting. I can’t wait to experience track at the next level,” said VanZant. “I believe my strengths lie in multiple events. I feel that my body adjusts very well to new things.”
As Sheridan host their final home meet Wednesday with the District Meet next Friday and Saturday at Dayton High School, VanZant hopes to finish the season strong to build some momentum for her college career.
“Definitely mentality. And I need to progress on my starts,” said VanZant who finished second at State in the 200 meter and third in the 100 meter and 400 meter dashes as a Junior, on how she can improve moving forward to finish this season. “I just need to remember that it goes up from here. I will finish my senior year strong but also know that there’s more after high school as well.”
