MEDFORD, Ore.– It was shortly after high-noon when Amity took to the turf field at US Cellular Fields in Medford Monday to take on Toledo.
The 2A Boomers have a knack to raise havoc on 3A programs so far this season as they defeated Scio 7-6 to start the season 4-0 before falling to Dayton later that same day on March 17 in Dayton.
Monday was no different as they jumped on another strong 3A in the Lady Warriors and led 4-0 before Amity settled in defensively with Gracee Wright in the circle and her defense behind her that all settled in after the rough going to start the game with the addition of Morgan Croxford with the bats.
Croxford had three hits in the game and a two-run home-run to center field, but the bats couldn’t produce more than three runs to Toledo’s six in the 6-3 defeat Monday afternoon.
“It was frustrating because I knew we were better and we’ve been pushing ourselves to become better but we couldn’t hit,” Croxford said of the frustrations of the game. “But we just tried. It’s just something that we need to learn from.
“We can’t let our heads hang and just keep moving forward.”
And they didn’t, in Game two versus Cascade Christian, the Warriors turned their fortunes around as Amity exploded for 10 runs as their defense held the Challengers to four in the Lady Warriors 10-4 win to enter Day 2 of the North Medford Spring Break Invitational 3-1 with Philomath/Alsea at 8am back on the turf fields.
