SALEM, Ore.–  Senior night.  One last time for the West Salem Senior Wrestlers to leave it all out there for the name on their singlets.

To add fuel to the fire, the Titans were coming off a tough loss to McNary and were looking for revenge in their last ever match at West Salem versus McKay.

And they did just that.

Mason Meredith (138), Kaleb Fegles-Jones (145), Casey Resch (152) and freshman Cooper Johnson (160) all picked up wins via pins to start the senior night match as West Salem led 24-0 through four matches.

“It’s emotional, I’ve been here four years and just everyday in the mat room just going hard,” described Meredith on his Senior Night.  “Starting off like this, with my best friends and my family.  Getting a big win in front of the home crowd, the last one ever, it means a lot.”

Emotions were high indeed, as after his match Fegles-Jones walked out of the gym to the hallway to regain himself as Meredith went out to meet him.

“This program has been so much…it’s been my life,” said Fegles-Jones choking up after he re-entered the gym.  “Now it’s over, there’s no words.”

That start helped spark wins from Maul Manu at 182, another win at 195 and heavyweight.  Cedric Snider at 106 got another win as West Salem handed their seniors a 51-30 victory to close out their Senior season at home.

“You know, the senior group that we’ve had right now, it’s kind of our dudes,” starts Head Coach Mike Baker.  “This is I think my sixth-year, they’ve been with me…just kind of started things finally turned the corner, a lot of that is due to them.  It’s tough, it was an emotional night.

“We had a random draw tonight, which we don’t always do and it ended up us starting with four or five seniors in a row and they got us started with a bunch of pins.  It was a lot of fun, you know the random draw worked for us in that way.  It inspired the rest of our team on how and how we should wrestle.  There were a couple of matches  against McKay I would have like to have back, but you can’t.  But I’m happy with how the dual meet season finished for the seniors because they went out as they should.”
