SALEM, Ore.– Before the Varsity teams split, Salem Academy Girls with a 50-24 victory and RJ Veliz leading the way with a 29 point, eight assist, seven rebound performance to match Mike Bashaw’s 17 points, eight rebound, three assist game in their seven-point win over the Crusaders Wednesday night; the junior varsity squads warmed up both team’s fanbases.
On the girls side, Kayla Bauldree set the pace in the first half with 14 first-half points while Chole Baker helped on the rebounding game down in the trenches while adding another seven points as the Lady Crusader JV’ers led 29-16 at the halftime break.
The Lady Cavailers rallied back, but Salem Academy held off their rivals off to hand-over the momentum to their varsity counterparts.
However, the boys game was a little bit more interesting.
Salem Academy jumped out to a 8-0 lead and led 40-21 in the third quarter before the Cavs rallied back and forced those all important free throws to become the end factor to the game.
It came down to the Crusaders making the last one’s as Brenden Harper hit two of the most important free throws of the game as Salem Academy held off Blanchet rally when the final buzzer rang out in the side gym adjacent to the main gym Wednesday afternoon.
