DALLAS, Ore.–  Inexperienced or not, Dallas Girls Basketball found a way to get it done once again Thursday night against South Eugene to improve to 4-0 on the season.

As the Lady Axeman cut it to 30-28 late in the defensive battle, the second closest game of the year, and of this week, for the Lady Dragons next to the St. Helens game Tuesday, freshman Faith Martin-Bail increased it to 32-28 as time entered its final seconds.
For a team that had seven seniors on the roster last season that made it to the first-round of the 5A playoffs before falling to Crater, the hard-work of preparing for this season was imminent as they kept South Eugene off the board with Emma Classen walking to the line looking to put the game away with a ‘One-and-One’ free throw.
She couldn’t connect, but her and the defense that was strong all night long denied the Axeman, too having a strong defensive game themselves against Dallas, from cutting into a bare lead with the Dragons going back to the line moments later.
“It was really important since the score was so close to help the team out so much,” said Makayli Laizure walking up to the line up four looking for an extra cushion for the then 32-28 lead.

The senior connected on one of the two shots, giving Dallas a five point lead that they held in the final half-minute or so for the 33-28 win as their was a sigh of relief when the girls walked over to their home-crowd before entering the locker room following the game.
But, with the next four of five on the road before entering Mid-Willamette Conference play January 9 versus Corvallis, they can rest their hats on the good start but too know that they just got to keep at it with their first part of the road trip against Roosevelt is up next on Tuesday.
“It feels great, being pretty much an inexperienced team for Varsity coming in being 4-0, it’s pretty awesome,” starts Laizure.  “We just got to keep working hard in practice and pushing each other.
“We’re hard working and we’ll play for everything.”
Tip off against the Roughriders is at 7:15pm in Portland Tuesday and their game at Hillsboro next Friday is at 5:45pm.
