FOREST GROVE, Ore.– For both Blanchet Catholic and Salem Academy, it would have been nice to battle each other for any of the six trophies come Saturday to close out the 2017 VOlleyball season.

But hey, what’s better than to end the other’s season between friendly rivals than in the consolation finals?

The Lady Cavaliers opened the Elite 8 against number one Cascade Christian of Medford, losing in straight sets 19-25, 12-25, 15-25 and the Lady Crusaders traded identical 25-13’s with Vale, but the Lady Vikings got Salem Academy in four sets in the 4/5 match-up Friday afternoon.

Blanchet, who was competitive against the top seed and top team in 3A, know that this loss is not the end as they get to play at least one, if not two, more on Saturday at Forest Grove High School.

“Well, of course it’s a little disappointed that we lost this game but we won’t let that affect how we face tomorrow,” said Blanchet’s Caroline Ditzler. “It’s still another day, another team.  The tournament is not over, we can still have another game.  We just got to push with that mindset and not let it effect how we play.”

Chole Baker, younger sister of Salem Academy’s Halle Baker, added about going out there playing for the seniors like her older sister or the rest of the seniors on the team as they look to rebound from Friday’s loss.  Knowing that they could and can do it as they proved it in the first, second and fourth sets against the Lady Viks of Vale.

“I think if we play together I think we’re a better team and that we can do it,” said the sophomore Baker. “We have so many seniors to play for.  This is going to be their last times they’ll be playing so I think we should keep that in mind, play hard and I think we’ll be alright.”

Both sides know the story-line all too well, Salem Academy took the first two match-ups before the Cavs took the third in the league playoffs and they know what’s at stake for this last match-up for the season.

So, as their volleyball season’s come to a close Saturday, who will  have the final say as they enter the Winter Sports season?

First serve is at 10am at Forest Grove High School.
